Broad-based black economic empowerment (B-BBEE)
Management
We drive economic transformation internally and externally
through our core business, supplier development and social
investment activities in alignment with the B-BBEE Act.
Internally, we promote inclusion and diversity implement
employment equity, invest in skills development and
practise equal pay for equal work. All employees are
remunerated above the national minimum wage, with
wage negotiations conducted through a comprehensive
process (see here).
Externally, we utilise the Dipuno Fund to support enterprise
and supplier development (ESD), helping small-scale farmers
become suppliers. Our preferential procurement policy
prioritises previously marginalised groups in procurement
decision-making. These practices, along with our ESD
programme, contribute to transforming our supply chain.
Our social impact investments are channelled through our
SED programme, focusing on food and nutritional aid for
vulnerable communities near our operations and beyond,
via various partnerships. Additionally, we founded and
support The Tiger Brands Foundation, which provides
an in-school breakfast programme and improves school
nutrition across South Africa (see here).
Our transformation efforts are overseen by our B-BBEE
steering committee, which includes the chief corporate
affairs and sustainability officer, chief financial officer and
chief human resources officer. This strategy is implemented by our
B-BBEE working group, comprising key business line
representatives focused on compliance targets in ESD,
SED, preferential procurement, employment equity and
skills development. The working group reports to the
steering committee, which in turn updates the executive
committee and SETCO.
Performance
Our concerted efforts on the B-BBEE agenda over the
past five years have positioned us as an industry leader.
In 2024, our focus was on strengthening our preferential
procurement processes and skills development
programmes. Looking forward, we aim to drive further
transformation within our supply chain while broadening
our learnership programmes and increasing learner
absorption both internally and across the industry.
We maintained a Level 2 B-BBEE contributor status
in accordance with the amended agriculture sector
(Agri-B-BBEE) codes, gazetted in December 2017.
The 2023 scorecard and report are presented below
and published online at www.tigerbrands.com.
We will publish the 2024 scorecard and report
