Sustainability report: a review of Tiger Brands’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance

Covid-19: our ongoing responseDownload pdf version

The wellbeing of our staff and their families is extremely important to us, and we have continued to manage Covid-19 carefully at our sites with rigorous measures to help protect all our people.

Covid-19 emerged as an unprecedented crisis, driving new and amplifying existing risks to the business. As an essential service, our sector has generally been less impacted than others, yet the prolonged impact of the pandemic over three successive waves, coupled with the recent social unrest and looting in South Africa, has had a significant impact on our business.

The impact of the pandemic has been felt across our business through direct risks to business continuity and profitability, deepening social risk and complexity in our operating context, intensified competition in the food sector, amplified occupational-health risks and accelerated digital transformation (see IR ).

We amplified our response to the pandemic, by establishing and maintaining clear lines of leadership oversight and key management structures. Dedicated protocols for managing our operations and safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our people were implemented. Our key objectives remain: to keep employees safe and continue our community food support activities. We have expanded our focus on preventive protocols, to include proactive screening of employees and the promotion of vaccination. All our activities are underpinned by comprehensive internal communications campaigns and activations.
